• Breaking the Silence

One of the most recent of the national Deaf histories to emerge, this look into Deaf education in Ireland manages to be at once astonishing and low key. The author Edward Crean gives his tale extensive context, somewhat bemusingly beginning with the "American experience", then discussing efforts to educate deaf and hard of hearing children in France, Britain, and Germany. Throughout he explores Deaf education through the oral and signing philosophies, what the 19th century called "The Methods War" which still exists today…

It also promotes the idea that anything to do with education of Deaf people, it should be Deaf-lead.  As of now, Deaf people has no voting rights/say in the policy/decision making in Deaf education.
