Written by Cyril Axelrod. This book will be shown on Hands On, on RTÉ One.

Created via a combination of sign language, tactile communication and Braille, Fr Cyril Axelrod tells the story of his remarkable life and work. Born profoundly deaf into an Orthodox Jewish hearing family in South Africa, he tells of his early childhood, family life and schooldays, when it was hard to communicate fully with his parents. After a wrenching spiritual journey, he was baptised into the Catholic Church and became a priest.

Then, undeterred by a devastating diagnosis of Usher syndrome that has led to his blindness, he continued to work tirelessly for others in Britain. His work and his love for all people transcend disability, colour, creed and faith. This fascinating story told with remarkable humanity and humour will give inspiration to many and provide an enlightening and enjoyable read for everyone.
